Bullfighting
In 1958, Life magazine asked Hemingway to write a series of stories about the combat between two mythical crowd-pleasing bullfighters: Luis Miguel Dominguin and Antonio Ordonez.
For two seasons, Hemingway followed them in the arenas of Spain and France, describing, throughout their travels, the intensity of their confrontations .
Gaston Bonheur, the Editor-in-chief of Paris Match, was also a fan.
That is how Jean-Claude Sauer managed to photograph the fights described by Hemingway in The Dangerous Summer.
“Light years ago, it was the golden age. I was following Hemingway on the trail of two enemy step-brothers, Antonio Ordonez and Luis-Miguel Dominguin. Every two weeks, the writer sent his article to Life while I took pictures. Ordonez and Dominguin cooperated, their feet stuck in the sand, without a flinch. Thanks to them, bullfighting once again became a cult.”
