Isabelle Chapuis, Young Fashion Photographer Picto Prize 2010
Introduced in 1998, the Picto Prize for Young Fashion Photographers (ppipm) was designed to reveal emerging talents. Since then, it has become a reference in the professional world. The jury of this 13th edition, comprised of celebrities in design and journalism, reduced the selection process to eight candidates out of the hundred participants. They attributed the prize to Isabelle Chapuis for her series “Exodus”. With a degree in 2005 from The Superior Graphic Arts School of Paris (ESAG), she first wanted to explore the world and traveled several times to Asia and the Middle East. “I am working as an independent” she declared, oscillating between fashion and news. “Trying to combine one with the other helped my vision, cradling it to imperfection in the name of emotion”. The “Exodus” series was born out of my reaction to an article about African refugees. “The silent traveller covers the world on foot, hidden and exposed in a landscape that he can’t cross, forever in movement.”
