Exhibition
Charleroi
Simone Lueck
Alongside the retrospective on Leonard Freed, the Museum of Photography of Charleroi presents an exhibition on the American photographer Simone Lueck, « The Once and the Future Queens. » To produce this work, she placed an ad reading « Seeking fabulous, striking, interesting older woman to pose as a glamorous movie star for photo series. Please submit a photo and describe how you would pose as a glamorous movie star. There is no pay, but images will be provided. All types will be considered. Thank you! (Craigslist post, 2009) »
There are many a Sharon, Sandy, and Claudia that reply, all wanting to become in the course of a photo shoot Marilyn Monroe or Elizabeth Taylor.
Simone Lueck allowed these women to choose their set decoration, their clothing and their poses.
And, in front of the camera, the boundary became a blur between fantasy and reality.
Also at the Museum of Photography of Charleroi is the exhibition « The face and the spirit », by the late Belgian photographer Fernand Dumeunier, who passed in 1968.
