ArtParis, the spring Modern and Contemporary Art Fair, returns to the Grand Palais from March 31 through April 3, 2011. Over one hundred international stands will feature painting, photography, sculpture, drawing, video and art installations… Photography’s increasing presence in the contemporary art world has made it prevalent in gallery collections.

Here are some of the International Galleries :

From Germany, Clair, a young gallery from Munich, founded in 2007 by Anna-Patricia Kahn and Markus Penth. They will be offering a dynamic and varied exhibition: on the day of the inauguration, they will be presenting, alongside paintings by Daniel Mohr, an unreleased series by photographer Gundula Friese. Works of Argentine photographer Adriana Lestido and Russian Boris Savelev will be on display as of Friday, and on Sunday, the group exhibition “Clair de Cœur” will close out the salon, with the splendid and astonishing work by young photographer Petr Lovigin, and the infamous French photographer Patrick Zachmann.

A second gallery from Munich, the Gallery Andreas Binder, will be exhibiting, amidst a variety of other works, a few pictures by Izima Kaoru and Dieter Rehm.

From Switzerland, De Primi Fine Art will offer a wide selection of photographs, from classical works from Ansel Adams and Peter Beard to the more modern with pictures by Olafur Eliasson or Robin Rhode…

From Lausanne, Dubner Moderne will show a collection of eight artists, including two photographers. The first, Edward Mapplethorpe : who admits himself that he is more of an artist than a photographer. Having abandoned his camera, the artist paints photo paper with chemicals before exposing them to light, creating unique and colorful works. The second, Thomas Dudan is a young photographer who developed his own style using the camera on his cell phone in a series entitled « Mobilographie ».

And to finish, the Analix Forever Gallery, based in Geneva, commissioned Paul Ardenne to work on the theme “Reality Revisited” for ArtParis. Two photographers Mat Collishaw and Patrick Mimran will be on display. Mat Collishaw is presenting otherwise ambiguous images, sumptuous still lifes treated like paintings are in reality the last meals served to American death row victims. For Patrick Mimran, his oversized enigmatic images are remarkable for their detail. The series “After” is presented here with cloudy sky views.

Photos of the famous Nan Goldin, Hiroshi Sugimoto and Clifford Ross will be on the stand of the Belgian André Simoens Gallery.
The Ifa Gallery, from Beijing, will show the works of the Gao brothers, and photographers including Zane Mellupe and Alexis Kouzmine-Karavaïeff.
