The exhibition shows two series, the first Autour, New York 2001-2002 rewarded with the Roger Pic Prize from Scam (Civil society of multimedia artists). The second series is Watching TV a more recent work, also rewarded with the famous World Press Photo in 2008.

Around (« Autour »), New York 2001-2002

The tragic attacks of September 11, 2001, is marked by numerous photographs and videos during and after the catastrophe. Olivier Culmann decided to explore the other face of this disaster by photographing the faces of passers-by around the World Trade Center ruins. He chose to capture the reflection of their doubts on that reality. He explores the repercussion of the current events and their echoes on the living.

Watching TV

Quite far from the ruins of Ground zero, Olivier Culmann worked his way in to the intimacy of people and directs his regard on the faces of the anonymous viewers, hypnotized by the delirious images on the screens… From country to country, this series of portraits captures the instant where people are coiled up on their sofas, passive and motionless, where conscience is asleep, nursed by the phosphorescence of the cathode tubes. He immortalizes the dead time in their existence. The photographs by Olivier Culmann, rewarded by the World Press Photo Prize in the category “Contemporary subjects” in 2008, are assembled in a 142-page book, published by Textuel.

The exhibition can be seen from April 1st through June 11th, Pavillon Carré de Baudouin 121, rue de Ménilmontant 75020 Paris
