Political Figure. ” Republican Congressman Paul Ryan can be seen either as a hero or as a villain, depending on whether you agree with ideas for cutting the federal budget, or President Obama’s. There’s not much middle ground these days in American politics. Photographer Marco Grob went for a neutral interpretation in this portrait, centering Ryan’s ambiguous expression within shades of gray. Nonetheless, one right-leaning magazine called Time’s story a ’hit piece’.” Photo by Marco Grob, Time

One of the top 2011 prospects is Jake Locker, who quarterbacked for the University of Washington. There is a shadow over this year’s draft, however: There may be no professional football this fall because of a labor dispute between owners and players. ” Photo by Alan Clarke, ESPN The Magazine

David Schonauer begins the week with two portraits. The first is that of Republican Paul Ryan by Marco Grob (Time). A hero or a bandit? It all depends on your political viewpoint. After the satisfied smile of Paul Ryan, the dark eye and muscular body of Jake Locker (Alan Clarke, ESPN The Magazine).
Much more glamourous : the photography of Peter Lindbergh ( Vogue) where we see the trunk of an elephant softly grazing the arm of Reese Witherspoon in a satin dress.
The Atlantic and the New York Times published images of the natural disasters that shook the United States this week, in North Carolina, Alabama and also Texas where many fires broke out.
With one week to go until the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton , Regent Street is flooded with flags for the preparation of the ceremony (Carl Court, New York Times).
David Schonauer ends his press review on a spring-inspired note: the migration of bees. (Frank Rumpenhorst, The Atlantic ).
