This book is equally the fruit of a personal favorite and pleasant circumstances. How did Thierry Girard, a surveyor of the planet, find himself becoming fond of Bègles to the point of wanting to work there for two years?

Maybe it’s luck that made things fall into place. When invited to exhibit in the Universal Exhibition in Nagoya his work “La route du Tokaido”, on about Japan, his show caught the eye of Noël Mamère, Mayor of Bègles.

This accidental encounter set off a commission and while he was working he fell for the charm of this little town that he describes as a “suburban town on the outskirts of Bordeaux, but that lives like a series of villages.”
