The Robert Capa Gold Medal Award for “best published photographic reporting from abroad requiring exceptional courage and enterprise” went to Agnes Dherbeys, who freelanced for The New York Times in doing her story “Violence erupts in Thailand.” Taking great risk to photograph violent anti-government riots in Thailand, her images are close-up, powerful and direct. She worked day and night, photographing clashes that saw anti-government protesters both attacking soldiers as well as being attacked. Her images were an emotional rendering of the chaotic and dangerous scenes around her.
