On your roof, NY
“On Your Roof is an aesthetic research on privacy in large cities. The third season of roofs is being shot right now in New York!
At the origin of this observation of the big megalopolis, one obsession derived in two questions: How does a person define oneself in the urban space and how can they preserve their privacy? This research has lead me to the roofs of New York.
I discovered gigantic spaces, others very small, some transformed into terraces with jacuzzis, some others turned into vegetable gardens, many finely decorated and most of them naked under the sun.
I observed a strange light, a reflection from the sky on the silvery surfaces, landscapes worthy of cubist paintings, mind-blowing views on New York’s architecture and a shocking silence.
I also met those who live there, who have all realized that they have developed a strong dependence on that refuge between heaven and earth. They talked about a different reality, a real intimacy, an isolation of salvation.
And me, after all of these hours spent between heaven and earth, I would love to believe that only when we’re up there, something sweet and human can be felt. Just like a return to the sources.”
