Last Monday June 20th at the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the jury of the Niépce Prize, presided by Nathalie Bocher-Lenoir, president of the association Gens d’images, awarded the Niépce Prize 2011 to Guillaume Herbaut.

The results were communicated on Thursday June 22nd at the Bibliothèque de l’Arsenal.

The photographer was presented by Frédéric Boucher, art director of the photographer association Diaphane.

This year the Niépce Prize by Gens d’Images is sponsored by MK2, corporation created and directed by Marin Karmitz, offers the winner a check for 8,000 €.

In addition, the gallery Esther Woerdehoff will feature the winner’s photographs from October 4th through 18, 2011. The prints for the exhibition will be supplied by “Label Image”.

Created in 1955 by the association Gens d’images, le Niépce Prize, also known as the « Goncourt of photography, » awards the work of a professional photographer, male or female, under 50 years, every year.

This year, fifteen applications presented by fifteen qualified personalities were submitted to the jury.

This jury was composed of : Sylvie Aubenas, Director for the department of engravings and photography at Bibliothèque nationale de France,

Anne Biroleau, curator at the engravings and photography department at Bibliothèque nationale de France, Nathalie Bocher-Lenoir, President of Gens d’images, director of the illustration department of the group SEJER-Editis.

Jean-Christian Bourcart, photographer, awarded in 2010, Stéphane Brasca, director of the magazine De l’air. Marc Dumas, art director, design atelier Tout pour plaire, Anne de Mondenard, photography historian, scientific director at Mission de la photographie, Ministère de la culture et de la communication, Françoise Paviot, galerist, Paris, Monique Plon, vice-president of de Gens d’images and Esther Woerdehoff, galerist in Paris.

Guillaume Herbaut is a French photographer who lives and works in Paris.

He is represented by the agency Institute for Artist Management. He is a founding member of the agency "Oeil Public,” has just exposed “La Zone” at the Gaîtée Lyrique in Paris, and has also published a book with the same title with the publishers Naïve.

“Gens d’Images has been organized every year since 1955.

The NIÉPCE prize was the first as a professional photography prize in France, sponsored by MK2, with the help of the BNF, the gallery Esther Woerdehoff and the Photo Atelier Label Image.

The Nadar Prize, an award for the best book on or about photography. It is granted and sponsored by MK2.

The Arcimboldo Prize, created in 1999, awards the best digital photo image creation. It is sponsored by Swisslife and granted by Epson.
