Benefiting from the night of the Roquette, before hundreds of projectors light up on street corners or in courtyards, Arles was host to countless gallery openings in both sedentary or ephemeral locations. Keeping in mind the ambulatory Tangente group with Vincent Mayes and Boris Rogez who prefer to display their works on street walls using the sidewalks as their headquarters, including, of course, some celebratory bubbly. In the first category, the sedentary galleries presented “Young Photography in Arles” (“Comptoirs Arlésiens de la jeune photographie”). Which doesn’t signify, contrary to what many might believe, that these galleries only show photographers from Arles. Initiated by the association “Through the countryside”, this project is designed to promote the works of young photographers, helping them into more and more complex marketplace, and following their career trail. Line Lavesque, association director, “Through the countryside” does not just signify young photographers, but includes beginners of all ages. Sponsored by Jane Evelyn Atwood, John Davies, Michael Kenna and Bernard Plossu, the project gave birth to the new gallery located at 2 rue Jouvène à Arles. An exhibition there includes works by Audrey Armand, Sabine Delcour, Marie Maurel de Maillé, Julie Pradier, Emilie Raynaud, Marie Sommer, Stéphanie Tétu, Emilie Vialet and Sophie Zénon who shows her latest series of trios.
During the month of July, the gallery will be open day and night, with a projection showing ten pictures by each photographer in an adjacent storefront.
