Cristina Nuñez is adept at taking self-portraits in private. She started the practice in 1988 in an attempt to overcome personal problems. It quickly became therapy in the form of emotional liberation and enabled her to project herself as she wanted to be. Someone to Love (1988-2011) brings together for the first time all the self-portraits that she made; The Self-Portrait Experience shows her method of interior exploration. In her artistic work, Nuñez affirms that “the existing separation between art and therapy is intolerable.”
Cristina Nuñez lives and works in Barcelona. Her work has been presented at the Rencontres d’Arles (1998) and at the Festival FotoGrafia of Rome (2009). In 2010, she was a finalist in the New York Photo Festival.
Our correspondant, Jonas Cuénin who covers the event for La Lettre has selected 6 photographers. Here is the first one.
