Parallel to the Biennale de Lyon that will be running through November 26, the Réverbère Gallery is celebrating its 30th year. In honor of the occasion, the Gallery has invited one of their regulars, William Klein, and 10 faithful collectors who have worked with the gallery since its opening. “We asked them to build with us this exhibition in honor of this great American photographer and inventor of contemporary photography. Each imagined “his” ideal collection in 5 pictures, some showed what they owned, others what they would like to own, others invented a whole new occasion. A lovely adventure, exciting, intimate, playful for them and us with William Klein’s kind approval.”
On the other hand, the photographer himself was able to respond freely to the selection made by the 10 collectors. The exhibition evokes the many sides to William Klein’s work, from the innovative black and whites that were the benchmark of 1950’s photography, Rome, New York, Moscow, Tokyo, through today’s painted contact sheets that create a subtle link to his early days of painting.
As part of this celebration and the Biennale, the organizers also included Klein’s cinematic side, with several films on display at the Institut Lumière.
