In 1965, Martine Franck began taking pictures of artists “From Other Lands” living in Paris since 1945. Although she created the idea, the subject eventually grew, according to the book’s author Germain Viatte, by popular demand.
The collection constitutes a veritable mini-encyclopedia. The book and the exhibition feature 60 artists including such painters and sculptors as Adami, Alechinsky, Viera da Silva, Zao Wou Ki, Marc Chagall, Fernando Botero or Victor Vasarely…
This work in process was completed in order to be part of the Maison Europeenne de la Photo’s ongoing series Étranges Étrangers (Strange Foreigners).
