This week, a single subject: after forty-two years of dictatorship—better than Hitler, Stalin and other sinister characters that History is obliged to remember—the distinguished, blood-stained guest of so many short-sighted leaders... Muammar Gaddafi is dead. “The End of a Tyrant,” “Libyans Celebrate the Death of a Tyrant,” “Muammar Gaddafi, the Evil Buffoon of Sirte.” The headlines differ only in nuance and sensibility. But what would the editors do for images? The only pictures and videos of the dictator’s capture were taken with cell phones. This week we will consider the response of several publications to a single event. Instead of selecting a few photos, I present a mosaic of headlines and front pages from across the world.
