Jean Combier, founder and director of the publishing house CIM (Combier Imprimeur à Macon) had two passions: the technical evolution of photography, and aviation. CIM was one of last century’s largest publishers of postcards. Over the course of fifty years, his teams soared through French skies, photographing the country’s most beautiful villages. Today, the more than two million photographs they took are held in archives overseen by Marc Combier, author of “Un siècle de cartes postales” (A Century of Postcards) published by Éditions Alternatives, and his latest book, with accompanying texts by Laurent Cabrol, “La France des années 60 vue d’en haut” (An Aerial View of 1960s France). This is an important work that shows the evolution of post-war France in the decade of reconstruction.
