The book La photographie par les enfants explores 10 years of school photography. The photography in school project that began in 2001 has been displayed annually at the Maison de la Photographie Robert Doisneau in Gentilly. What initially began in the primary schools of Gentilly quickly spread to schools throughout the Val de Bièvre region. With the participation of professional photographers Yves Flatard and Jean-Jacques Grezet, the project stretched beyond the simple technical introduction to become an artistic and educational project with teacher input. “In an era when everything is image oriented, having a camera in your hands forces you to see the world differently.”

For the two photographers, it was essential to “train the eye to look
differently”, leading them to spend time deciphering images.
A theme is suggested every year, analyzed with the teachers before the students hit the pavement with their cameras. The results of teaching the eyes to see differently can be seen in this book. “Learn to see beyond appearances” is a theme developed by Regional Visual Arts Counselor, Nadia Brianceau.
