As in past year's, participants to the Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2012 must download the application from the website www.leica-oskar-barnack-award.com. Entries must be sent by March 1st, 2012. Recipients of the "Leica Oskar Barnack Award” receive 5000 Euros, and a digital Leica M9-P worth 10 000 Euros. The “Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer" award is open to any prospective or confirmed photographer under 25 who will receive a Leica M9-P with a lens. The jury will select a project that best exemplifies man’s relation to his environment in a series of maximum 12 pictures. “Entry submissions must be a self-contained series of images in which the photographer perceives and documents the interaction between man and the environment with acute vision and contemporary visual style – creative, groundbreaking and unintrusive.”
This year’s jury includes Bruce Gilden, photographer from Magnum photos Agency, Stephan Erfurt, director of C/O Berlin, Valérie Fougeirol, artistic director of Gallery Magnum Paris, Karin Rehn-Kaufmann, artistic director of the Leica Salzbourg Gallery and Brigitte Schaller, artistic director of the magazine Leica Fotografie International. Awards will be presented during the upcoming Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie d’Arles, France, between July 2 and 8, 2012.
