Beginning with lot 85 are pictures by the Deriaz dynasty, a family of photographers who have been working for five generations in Baulnes, one of the oldest villages of the Vaud in Switzerland. Prints by Alphonse Deriaz 1 (1827-1889), the first photographer in the family to work with photographic techniques in the United States and who, upon returning to France, worked with Niépce de Saint Victor before opening his own studio in Morges, Switzerland. Inheriting the family business, his son, Armand 1 (1873-1932) developed an activity printing post cards and alpine panoramas thanks to the arrival of phototyping. Alphonse 2 (1915-1995) continued his father’s printing work and became one of the first to use airplanes to take pictures of the mountains from different angles. Born in 1942, Armand 2 carried on the family tradition by studying at the photography school of Vevey. As a photo reporter, he traveled the world and Switzerland. He continued publishing post cards and organized exhibitions of the Deriaz pictures and of those of Lazhar Mansouri. In his footsteps, his sons, Lionel, (born in 1969) and Clément (born in 1984), both professional photographers, maintain the family practice.
The sale offers vintage prints and prints by Armand Deriaz 2, 40X50cm, made in 1986-88 and 2003, on fiber based paper or gelatin silver bromure for exhibitions.

With three lenses, it provides movement to the pictures with superimpositions and fadeouts. He submitted his invention on September 14, 1878 and made his first public presentation on December 10, 1880 at the Café concert “XiX siècle” in Paris. The Diaphanorma was registered three years later, on December 12, 1881, with the name “optical machine for projecting on theater screens”. It is this jewel of the pre-cinema days that is on sale, in its original box. The ensemble comes from the family of Eugène-Louis Danguy.
