Charlottesville 2012: Look3
The Look3 photography festival being held in Charlottesville in June 7–9, 2012, will present over forty artists, many of whom are already well established: Alex Webb, Stanley Greene, Bruce Gilden, Lynsey Addario, Donna Ferrato and Hank Willis Thomas, among others. The festival is a selection of the most important instant photographs from the past thirty years, featuring images of daily life, street scenes, and other extraordinary catastrophes and conflicts. In addition to these celebratory exhibition, selected by guest curators David Griffin, visuals editor from The Washington Post and photographer Vincent J. Musi, there are other installations that deserve a visit, like an interactive space called “Truth Booth” will allow the public to respond in images to the simple question: “The truth is...” Other exhibitions to see include those organized by Aperture and its director Chris Boot, and by Pictures of the Year International. A special mention goes to the retrospective dedicated to the photojournalist Lynn Johnson, a contributor to National Geographic Magazine, Life and Sports Illustrated. This week, in the Eastern United States, photojournalism is putting on its Sunday best.
