The daily : Christian Louboutin has made his name — and millions of dollars — designing high-heeled haute couture. “Loubies” have never been known for their comfort, yet they have attracted a long list of celebrity clients, and Louboutin’s trademarked red soles are now staples of the well-heeled. The Design Museum in London this week unveiled a 20-year retrospective of the French designer’s creations to mark two decades of extreme and extremely fashionable footwear. Here are some of Louboutin’s more outré creations from the exhibit, featuring spikes, studs and some deliriously high heels. Jonathan Short/AP

The Telegraph : Award-winning Hungarian photographer Bence Máté captures wildlife up close and personal. His nickname - 'the invisible wildlife photographer' - offers an explanation to just how he manages to capture such intimate snaps. He can spend days, weeks or even months quietly tucked away in a hide that he has carefully designed and built. These often utilize one-way glass, which is what enables him to get so close to his oblivious subjects. Dalmatian pelicans with open bills at Lake Kerkini, Greece. “A book must be an ice-axe to break the seas frozen inside our soul” Franz Kafka famously wrote in his journal. If he had been witness of today's photojournalism, he would realize that photography has, and should use the same power for the same effect. There is nothing sacred that photography cannot profoundly disturb by reinterpreting it, either by pure beauty or extreme desperation. A smile can become an universe of pleasure while a stare can reveal a long story of despair and rage. By a simple flick of a button and acute framing, photojournalists will power you out of the comfort of your daily chairs and yank you face to face with a poignant reality. This week selection travels from the baseball fields of California to the Gallery walls of London, without forgetting the killing fields of the world, brushing against the 'scandalous” picture of army moms breastfeeding or of the a happy girl in the wind. All brutally remind us that beyond the walls of our lives exist torrential emotional moments that deserve much more then a simple blink. And , in the process, breaks a little bit of our ice inside.
