A book must be an ice-axe to break the seas frozen inside our soul” Franz Kafka famously wrote in his journal. If he had been witness of today's photojournalism, he would realize that photography has, and should use the same power for the same effect. There is nothing sacred that photography cannot profoundly disturb by reinterpreting it, either by pure beauty or extreme desperation. A smile can become an universe of pleasure while a stare can reveal a long story of despair and rage. By a simple flick of a button and acute framing, photojournalists will power you out of the comfort of your daily chairs and yank you face to face with a poignant reality.
