Gerardo Mosquera, the Festival’s general curator, explores the central theme of the Official Section - From here. Context and Internationalisation - through 10 group exhibitions and 5 solo shows. PHE12 is showcase work by over 300 artists, including Andy Warhol, Richard Avedon, Carlos Garaicoa, Paz Errázuriz, Santiago Sierra, Chen Chieh-jen, Alberto García-Alix and Helena Almeida. PHotoEspaña has cut its budget by 25%. The public-private partnership model has been adapted to ensure a broad-based programme of exhibitions and activities. This year there is even more exhibitions in the Festival Off section. For the first time, exhibitions at all the host galleries open on the same day: 5 June. PHotoEspaña and Magnum Photos have teamed up to organise workshops led by Abbas, Antoine D’Agata, Chien-Chi Chang and Bruce Gilden in Alcalá de Henares. Alcobendas will make its Festival debut, hosting the Descubrimientos PHE event. PHotoEspaña has expanded its educational programme to include workshops in hospitals and for young people with Down’s syndrome. The programme also includes guided tours, family workshops, online competitions, virtual exhibitions and the PHotoMarathon.
