For its second edition, the Prix Photo Par Nature has asked Reza to preside over its jury of professionals, composed of photographers, journalists, and leading players in the world of photography and environmental causes. A selection of photographs from the 2012 edition, plus photographs taken by last year’s winner, will be on display at the Jardin des Plantes in Paris from June 22 to September 12, 2012.

Nearly 30 portfolios were submitted to this year’s contest, whose theme was “Man and Nature”. The 10,000€ grant will allow the winner to produce his project in the coming months. This year’s winner is Cyril Ruoso for his series on frogs. The jury almost wished to recognize the finalists Jéromine Derigny for a work on urban agriculture, and Eric Prinvault for his project in Thailand.

The exhibition at the Jardin des Plantes will bring together 2011 winner Xavier Desmier and twenty photographs from the 2012 edition. For his project, Desmier photographed the Sundarbans.

Situated in on the western part of the Gulf of Bengal, after the Ganges meets the Brahmaputra, the Sundarbans is the largest single block of mangrove forest in the world. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986, and has been nominated as the ninth wonder of the world by the New Seven Wonders Foundation in 2011.
