Martine Franck: Regards de Femme I

"I really like Avigdor Arikha's painting, and he is a friend. He asked me once to photograph him in his studio. I am fascinated by duplication. I realize that when i make a portrait, I often photograph people in front of a mirror or people's reflections in a mirror. Arikha wanted to know which one was the most real: himself or his self-portrait or the image I captured of both of them. Photography is never objective. It is up to you to decide which one is closest to reality."
