Dwarfdom: Sofiya
“I had a nightmare once, I was six feet tall and I was literally scared of my own height,” says 21-years old Sofiya Cheyenne Perez.
She is just above four feet tall and lives in Brooklyn, New York.
Dwarfdom is a photography essay and a short documentary that tells the story of Sofiya, Clinton, Justin and Jahmani, who are all around four feet tall. (Here are Sofiya's photos.)
“It is a whole other world down here. Elbows, butts and the corners of women’s purses are at my face level. And there is always someone staring,” Sofiya says.
She is dating Clinton Brown III, who is also a little person. “I think life is a big game of Poker. God is the dealer and he gives us our cards and we have to play them. This is my hand and I’m going to have the most fun playing it,” Clinton says.
Dwarfdom was awarded and exhibited at the New York Photo Festival 2012 in the category documentary series and multimedia. The series was also a finalist for the PHotoEspana OjodePez Award for Human Values 2011. The short documentary has its Europe’s premier at the Helsinki International Film Festival this month.
