Marseille-Plossu, au tournant du siècle 1991-2011, Couverture par Bernard Plossu
After spending last spring in Normandy, this season Bernard Plossu will be very present in the south of France (Aix-en-Provence and Marseille) with two projects and two major exhibitions, and two publications available from Éditions Images en Manœuvres.
In Aix-en-Provence, the Musée Granet will present until December 16, 2012, La Montagne blanche, featuring 107 prints taken by Bernard Plossu since 1991 of the legendary Mon Sainte-Victoire, so dear to Cézanne. The exhibition is a gift from the Fondation Almayuda and the photographer, intended to enrich the museum’s collection.
An outdoorsman, Plossu has taken several trips over years to the mountain, photographing it each time from a different perspective.
“When my friends convinced me to bring my pictures of Sainte-Victoire together, I discovered a series white with light, because hiking up there is an experience of absolute light. That’s where I got the idea to call this series La montagne blanche.”
Marseille Plossu is an exhibition on display until December 16, 2012, at the Centre de la Vieille Charité, in Marseille. It present 230 thirty prints ranging from thumbnails to large format—but not too large, says Plossu—taken in and around Marseille at the turn of the century, from 1991 to 2011. Like much of the photographer’s work, these images were taken from series that were originally commissioned. The subjects are very ‘à la Plossu,’ unconventional and free from stereotypes. They are blurred, in silhouette, cut-out geometric shapes as seen from the window of a moving vehicle, capturing an instant.
Another exhibition will be on display through December 15, 2012, at the Non-Maison, also in Aix-en-Provence, which presents a series of hiking montages previously seen at the Centre Pompidou under the title Les nouveaux promeneurs solitaires.
