The Théâtre de la Photographie et de l’Image Charles Nègre in Nice will present through February 3, 2012, a retrospective of the work of Denis Brihat.

More than eighty photographs taken between 1958 and 2011 will be on view, covering most of his career. The respect shown for the chronology of the works is a deliberate choice made by the curator Pierre-Jean Amar (with the photographer’s consent), reflecting Brihat’s break with journalism photography after winning the Prix Nièpce in 1957. The exhibition is the continuation of one held in 2005 to celebrate the release of a book, also overseen by Amar.

As Paris galleries and museums seem to have declined to host this exhibition, it will continue its journey throughout the rest of France and Europe, and may be elsewhere, should the opportunity present itself.
