Last week, the 25th edition of the Athens Photo Festival opened its doors. Organized by the Hellenic Centre for Photography and directed by Manolis Moresopoulos , the festival offers a varied program, combining internationally renowned photographers, while leaving space to the younger generation.
The theme of this year is “Art/Doc intersection”. Photography will be on display in Athens, with more than twenty exhibitions in Technopolis, with satellite exhibitions.
Between art and documentary, it is sometimes difficult to make the distinctions between staged images and documentary reality. Yet each pictures have testimony values with examples like Jan Banning’s series on offices or Carlo Gianferro’s Gypsy interiors. The photographer Gicacomo Brunelli introduces us to common animals, with an another point of view; Nigel Bennet, shows us images from Bankgok and Monika Merva uses her entourage in her work. Christian Vium realized a series on clandestines and Eran Gilat still life. Anders Petersen combines fiction and autobiography. But in this critical time, the Athens Photo Festival dedicated an exhibiion to the Greek reality as well.
