Filip Dujardin is fascinated by architecture, but he’s no ordinary architecture photographer. He has developed his own vision by creating architectural fictions. After studying architecture, this photographer from Gand decided to lay claim to his Belgian cultural heritage, like the surrealists René Magritte and Raoul Servais. He assembled pictures of Deauville’s iconic buildings and landscapes, pictures that he himself took. These ingenious photomontage puzzles seem to have come straight out of a science fiction film, with their unlikely, offbeat and sometimes disturbing nature. They appear to be urban “reconstructions,” a kind of architecture that is neither entirely novel nor familiar. It is a genuine tour de force providing a new vision of Deauville.
