Aperture - Bruce Davidson (1986)
My association with Aperture books goes back to 1986, when Michael Hoffman, the director of Aperture, made it possible for the Subway images to be published, when most commercial publishers could not take a chance on this complex material. In 1995, Melissa Harris, Editor at Aperture, published the Central Park body of work. Later, in 2003, Lesley Martin, the Publisher at Aperture, and Executive Director Chris Boot, joined forces with Steidl in Germany, manifested an expanded version of the original Subway photographs. The main thing to know, with respect to Aperture, is that their publications are of the highest quality and have a long life in distribution.
