Willis Arnold, Emily Peters: Claustrophobia
These images are the product of a collaboration between myself and the photographer Emily Peters. The photographs are a metaphoric representation of how manufactured products shape the contours of modern identity. These masks are created with materials traditionally used to contain. Bags hold objects. Tape binds and restricts. Here we’ve attempted to depict the intersection of the material’s practical functions and their symbolic place in our lives. The material becomes the shape of (and obscures) our main symbol of identity, the face.
