Bastia : Paul Alessandrini Une invitation
Paul Alessandrini is a legendary columnist for the French music magazine Rock & Folk and a party organizer for the Palace. A regular contributor to Le Journal, he takes pictures during his travels. If you happen to live near Bastia Corsica, he would like to invite you to his opening tonight at the Théâtre Municipal at 7pm.
“Itadakimasu!” This Japanese expression, similar to the French bon appétit, has a different meaning for the Japanese than it does for us Westerners. More than a call to the table, it acknowledges a ritual that began long ago and which will continue throughout the meal. The door slides open, the hostess in a kimono kneels down in greeting, and so begins the ballet of dishes and bowls which will soon cover the lacquered wooden table.
The 25 photographs presented here were selected from thousands taken during several trips to Japan. They illustrate this “art of the mouth” and the ceremony that goes with it. They offer a visual commentary on the signs of a culture: zen, the art of gardening and the celebrations of the rhythms of nature, sacred trees, sculpture, makeup, ceramics, flowers and little gifts.
