São Paulo : As Close As Possible, The Portrait
The Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo will present through February 17 the group exhibition O mais parecido possível – O retrato (As Close As Possible: The Portrait), featuring forty photographs taken between 1970 and 2011.
For the curator Diógenes Moura, the exhibition doesn’t only investigate the existential forms of the portrait, but also its environment, its relationship to the essay and the documentary, its purpose—any element of its creation. The exhibition examines the encounter between man and his internal world. The photographs of Luiz Braga, Cristiano Mascaro and Fifi Tong show a desertion of reality. Loren McIntyre focuses on the cruel poetry of the body made into merchandise, while Eduardo Villares shares the oppressive silence of old age. Ricardo Alcaide turns his portraits of the London homeless and drug-addicted into quasi-religious images.
The exhibitions aims to provide an “interior portrait,” part of an artistic investigation the gallery has been conducting since 2009.
Photographers exhibited : Adenor Gondim, Arnaldo Pappalardo, Camila Buctcher, Claudia Guimarães, Cristiano Mascaro, Fernando Lemos, Fifi Tong, Eduardo Simões, Eduardo Vilares, Fernando Lemos, Klaus Mitteldorf, Loren McIntyre and Ricardo Alcaide.
