Since 1955, the Association “Gens d’Images,” in partnership with the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, has awarded the Prix Nadar, which recognizes the best publications of the year. The winning publications must focus on old or contemporary photography, and have been published in France during the year. The jury, chaired by Agnès Sire, director of the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson, met on November 29, 2012, at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France with Sylvia Aubenas, director of the department of Prints and Photography. Comprised of photography professionals, the jury awarded the Prix Nadar 2012 to Éditions Xavier Barral for its publication of Marc Riboud’s Vers l’Orient. This boxed set of the photographer’s work contains five books: Turquie, Iran/Afghanistan/Pakistan, Inde, Chine and Japon, seven countries Riboud visited between 1955 and 1958.

As part of its partnership with the prize, the entertainment retail chain Fnac will present a touring exhibition of Marc Riboud’s work in its galleries across the country.
