To Delve into the tens of thousands of Jean-Pierre Leloir contact sheets, perfectly ordered, indexed, dated and annotated, will take one backstage to some of the greatest Parisian concert halls, where Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, Count Basie, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan performed. Greeted like royalty upon their arrival by the journalists and the Parisian public, these artists fascinated Leloir.

Since he started in 1952 (he was 21 then), Leloir sought to be worthy of the music he documented, carefully preparing the framing and lighting of his shots, capturing the emotion on the faces of the performers. While fulfilling his role as a reporter, he was able to capture the atmosphere of these smoky backstage areas, rehearsal rooms and recording sessions.

Jean-Pierre Leloir passed away on December 20th, 2010.
This exhibition is dedicated to his wife, Arlette.
