Marjolaine Roland: Prix Icart Photo 2013
In response to the theme of this year, which asked photographers to represent France’s cultural heritage, Marjolaine Roland, 20, showed that not every object in our heritage receives attentive care and plans for restoration. She began by photographing a place she had once known in all its splendor, now in a state of disrepair, and she visited several other places like it: clinics, asylums, chapels, castles, etc. She managed to earn the trust of the graffiti artists and squatters that occupy these abandoned places, whose locations are kept secret, in order to take this series of photographs. This promising work-in-progress is far from over.
