Following North African riots of the 2011 spring, thousands of refugees landed in Lampedusa from disparate regions of Africa and Asia. Now, after more than a year, what happened? Many of them still live in family-homes where they were brought once left the CIE. Rarely was granted them political asylum. Everyone has a different kind of residence permit, and there is not a valid permission to work for everyone. However, all of them have someone at home waiting for their money to survive. This psychological pressure is devastating. Who does not see opportunities decides to run away and join to the crime. Labor exploitation , drug trafficking and prostitution become necessary to survive.
