From March 13 to April 6, 2013, an important portrait series and one hundred self-portraits by the photographer Olivier Roller will come into dialogue with the collection of Lyon’s Musée des Moulages as part of the exhibition Figures de pouvoir. This is one of the city’s most important cultural events in a year that marks the 40th anniversary of the Université Lumière Lyon 2.
Olivier Roller’s portraits explore the question of power through different themes: the busts of Roman emperors that speak of the creation of the image of power and its vanity; what the images of men in power today tell us about mask and fantasy; and the ambiguous relationship between the photographer and his model. This is a work about the incarnation of power, how it endures, how it decays, and how it is passed on.
