The Steven Kasher gallery in New York is presenting through May 26 the latest exhibition by Chip Simone, an artist working at the intersection of American modernism and street photography. Forty digital photographs produced in the last ten years show signs of how much inspiration Simone has taken from the work of Harry Callahan. The images are rich in detail, dominated by lines, colors and patterns; it takes a few seconds to see them clearly. This makes it impossible to make out where these photographs could have been taken, but that’s also part of their charm.
