Kingsley
I met Kingsley in Cameroon while preparing a story on illegal immigration. A young man of 22, he had already given it a try two years before, but gave up for lack of funding. Kingsley is ready to try again. He left his country in May 2004 to travel—illegally—across the Sahara from Nigeria to Niger to Algeria, and then on to Morocco. Three months and two stays in prison later, he went with thirty other illegal to the Canary Islands on a makeshift boat provided by smugglers. Six months after he left, having changed his identity five times and his nationality three times, he finally reached European soil... escorted by the Guardia Civil.
