5th Biennale of Documentary Photography in Argentina
From October 8 to 13, 2012, the small town of San Miguel in Tucumán, in northern Argentina, is the capital of documentary photography. An international festival organized every two years since 2004 by the Fondation Infoto, and which is held in the city’s cultural spaces, such as the Museo Casa Histórica de la Independencia, the Museo Provincial de Bellas Artes Timoteo Navarro, and the Teatro Alberdi. In total, nearly 20 exhibition and screenings will be open to the public, as well as readings, photography workshops and discussions. The theme of this year’s festival is new technologies and their impact, both on society and the photographic image.
The Bienal Argentina de Fotografia Documental aims to bring together professionals, students and amateurs to reflect on this theme and interact with each other.
This edition will welcome the professor and co-director of the Magnum Foundation Photography and Human Rights, Fred Ritchin, the historian Carole Naggar, and many Argentinian photographers (Martín Weber, Tony Valdez, Juan Travnik, Daniel Merle, Eduardo Grossman). The Spanish photographer Susana Girón, the Uruguyana Daniel Sosa, and the Mexican Antonio Turok will also be present. The Cuban singer, poet and composer Silvio Rodríguez will also be exhibiting the photographs taken during his tours and concerts in prisons.
