Toulouse 2012: Gohar Dashti
Gohar Dashti, an Iranian photographer, is presenting in Toulouse the series Today’s Life and War. She stages a young couple going about its daily activities amid reconstructed scenes of war: they watch television from a bunker, hang their laundry to dry on barbed wire, and go on a picnic surrounded by abandoned military helmets.
The calm and quiet couple offsets the battle scenes and movements of soldiers around them. The photographer embodies the legacy of war that is the psychological background for anyone who grew up in Iran in the 1980s.
Gohar Dashti lives and works in Tehran.
