Phnom Penh Photo 2012
Montana Rakz is a professional photographer he makes his living from fashion photography . This curious young man who takes the potential of photography to the limits, gives us a self-portrait of great but unintended originality. Last year when undergoing a very risky medical treatment over a 98-day period, this young photographer took a picture each day of something that came along with—or alleviated—his pains. It wasn't really a photographic project in the strict sense of the word, and the images are of this, that, and the other thing, some in color, others in B&W, with some attempting graphic research, others dealing with objects, spaces, faces, the sky or some other feature of nature. Put side by side chronologically, along with well-worded captions, brief or explicit, they build an account that leaves us wondering , but we can’t help see that it was vital and driven by necessity.
Born in Cambodia in 1991, Montana Rakz began his career in Phnom in 2010. After working with other professional photographers, he decided to start on his own. At present, he is working for his own agency, RAKZ/PHOTOGRAPHY. One of the particularities of his photos lies in the use of different techniques and visual languages, at the service of a permanent research of creativity, balance, and harmony.
