The Musée de l’Ancien Evêché in Grenoble, France, will present Les Alpes de Doisneau until April 14, 2013. For many, Robert Doisneau can be summed up by the famous feminine body delineated by the snowy peaks, or by his lighthearted collaboration with the cellist Maurice Baquet. But having spent more time in their father’s archives, Anette Doisneau and Francine Deroudille, Robert’s daughters, have come upon subjects that reveal both the neglected parts of their father’s work and his private life.
Indeed, many of these photographs were taken starting in 1936 at the ski resort of Megève during family vacations. We can see the two girls at Laffrey in Isère or at Chamonix with Maurice Baquet. Publicity photographs at the Col d’Izoard for the Simca Aronde automobile or Vogue in 1950. But other social issues appear in the work taken in Austria, or during his coverage of transhumance in the Southern Alps in 1958.
